About

As a journalist, my goal isn’t to promote or showcase particular hip-hop artists or venues, but rather tell stories that focus on the creative process that artists go through — writing, producing, performing — and provide analysis of news pertinent to the hip-hop generation. Hopefully, this site can serve as a forum for aspiring hip hop heads and a source for news on pressing social issues that affect them.

Zak Koeske is a graduate student in the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University. He grew up on underground hip-hop but has let the scene pass him by in recent years. This website is his attempt to reconnect to his roots in hope that someday he’ll get around to writing that immersion-style book where he hits the stage himself as an emcee.
